Okimot LodgeBear Hunting

OKIMOT LODGE is offering a quality, semi-guided bear hunt package from August 29th to October 31st, 2009.

Located 250 miles north of Toronto or 260 miles east of Sault Ste. Marie, our bear management unit (20 bear stands on 40 square miles in Wildlife Management Unit 41) surrounds Tomiko Lake which also provides good walleye, pike and bass fishing.

We allow a limited number of both rifle and bow hunters each week (up to six, but you are also welcome to come alone) giving every hunter a good chance at a black bear.  Using meat scraps and sweets, baiting starts in July. If you have access to an ATV (All
Terrain Vehicle) or four-wheeler, it would be of great advantage to bring one along (don’t forget a gun case to transport your rifle and a helmet). The cost to rent a four-wheeler is Can$ 500.00 plus tax or about US$500.00/week. Bow hunters can bring their own portable stands, but OKIMOT LODGE provides both rifle and bow stands. Distances from your tree stand to the bait are 10 to 25 yards for archery, 30 to 50 yards for rifle.

We offer three options to choose from:

1.615.00 US$ per hunter + taxes (1-3 hunters)

As soon as possible on arrival, you receive an information about the Do’s and Don’ts and then taken on a tour of some of the stands, always time permitting. If you wish you can hunt that same evening. You can reach some of the stands by car (and a walk of 5-12 minutes), some by four-wheeler only (10-23 minutes drive). Don’t’ forget that in Ontario you have to wear orange to and from the stand (vest and hat). You can hunt from half an hour before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset, on
Sundays too.

Successful hunters get help to handle their bear. The cost to butcher your bear is Can$0.65/lbs. Please bring enough coolers for the meat and the fur/head.  Since January 1, 2001, federal firearms regulations require that you declare your rifle or rifles which you bring into Canada at the port of entry. Just download the NonResident Firearm Declaration JUS 909 E/F under http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/online-en_ligne/form-assistance/indiv_forms/909_e.asp and present this declaration (unsigned) in triplicate at your port of entry.
